What’s For Dessert: Sipping Chocolate

A Food Lover’s Series

As a little girl in Paris, we went to this little bakery called Angelina’s. They are famous for their hot chocolate. You see, their hot chocolate is as thick as chocolate pudding and seriously the BEST sipping chocolate you will ever have! When Musa and I returned to Paris on our honeymoon, our hotel was right next door to Angelina’s! Seriously, the best travel decision ever! The hot chocolate was exactly how I remembered it as a little girl! I’m SO excited to share with you one of my all-time favorite desserts!

Ingredients:

8 oz Bittersweet Chocolate (I love Trader Joes)

1 1/2 Cup Whole Milk

1/2 Cup Heavy Cream

1/2 Teaspoon Espresso Powder

3 Teaspoons Powdered Sugar

Pinch of Salt

Whipped Cream (Optional)

Directions:

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the whole milk and heavy cream until small bubbles appear. Do not allow the mixture to boil. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate, espresso powder, and powdered sugar until melted, returning the sauce to low heat if needed for the chocolate to melt completely. Whisk mixture off heat for 30 seconds and return to heat for 30 seconds, repeating the on/off process for a few minutes. The mixture should thicken to the consistency of chocolate pudding. This takes a lot of time and patience. Whisk at all times to avoid burning. Serve warm, topped with lots of whipped cream. Hot chocolate can be stored in the refrigerator and heated up in the microwave for up to a week! Bon Appetite!
