Protecting Against Blue Light

3 Tips To Limit Your Blue Light Exposure

Blue light is a light that is visible to the human eye. It has a shorter wavelength and therefore produces more energy. Blue light is found everywhere since it is emitted by the sun BUT it is also found on digital screens, electronic decides and fluorescent and LED lighting. Studies suggest that prolonged exposure can cause long-term damage to your eyes. This is so scary! Especially since the majority of my job is using the computer. I edit for hours fixated on my computer screen.

I noticed with a full day of screen time my sleep was affected. I was having a harder time falling asleep and feeling well rested. Also, I would get frequent headaches! Seriously, no fun. I decided something had to change and I found 3 tips I use to limit my blue light exposure.

Blue Light Glasses

I invested in blue light glasses to protect my eyes against blue light from my screen time. There are a few companies out there but I used Felix Gray. I liked their style and qualities. Their glasses are made of quality material, they reduce screen glare and filter out blue light. Perfect for my job!

Sunscreen

This sounds like dermatology 101 but since blue light is emitted from the sun, I realized I should be adding a face moisturizer with SPF in it. This not only will help me age well but it’s protecting me from the extra blue light I’m exposing my self to through technology.

Reduce PM Use

Since blue light effects sleep, I decided to limit my PM screentime. I try to get most of my computer work done in the daytime so come nighttime my body can recalibrate and my sleep process isn’t messed up. This also means, reducing my Netflix time as well at night.

These tips work well for me and I hope they are useful for you too! If you have any blue light tips that work for you I’d love to hear them!
