Top Five Ideas for Interactive Food Stations

Nashville, Tennessee

I live in the 12 South Neighborhood of Nashville and I must say I love it!  It’s a pretty hip place to live. The main artery, 12 South Street, hosts boutiques, shops, restaurants, and bars. Off the main drag are neighborhood streets lined with sweet cottages and bungalows. My husband and I purchased a 1930’s renovated bungalow three years ago. If I am not in one of the 12 South coffee shops you would find me sitting on my front porch drinking a cup of Frothy Monkey’s coffee and writing for Sweet Williams!  Today I decided to write about interactive food stations featuring my top five places here on 12 South! So here we go!

Couples want their wedding reception to be more personal, memorable and fun, and this includes the food experience. Interactive food stations are the rage. They were first introduced as a “food feature” station, think the good ole  Candy Bar or Ice Cream Sundae Bar usually brought out at the end of the reception. Now, the sky is the limit and the trend is multiple interactive food stations from appetizers to the main entree to the dessert!  Why the craze? Interactive food stations are entertaining and allow your guests to participate in a truly unforgettable and unique culinary experience.

So what is the appeal? Simply put, they are fun! What better way to get your food than having a hand in it yourself? Second, interactive food stations promote mingling, socializing, networking and entertainment that a monotonous two-hour buffet or plated dinner does not. No longer is the dance music the signal for guests to leave the confinements of their designated table. Now, it’s the Guacamole Bar with large bowls of mashed avocado and gourmet toppings of grilled pineapple, mango, crispy slabs of bacon, lump crab, smoked pulled chicken or pork! How about getting up an grabbing a German-style hot pretzel accompanied with nacho cheese, mustard, and caramel sauces? Have a thing for french fries? I am glad you are curious. The Fry Station takes traditional fries, sweet potato fries, and waffle fries and tops them with favorites such as caramelized onions, homemade ketchup, sour cream, chives, blue cheese, and even cheese curds and gravy to create your own Poutine! You can take any of your favorite foods and turn it into an interactive food station and couples are doing it! Here in Nashville, there are a plethora of yummy delectables to try. So get creative and check out the local establishments in my neighborhood of 12 South to get ideas on how to get your wedding hopping and interactive!

  1. Five Daughters Bakery – Best donuts… EVER!!!!
  2. Edley’s Bar-B-Que –  We know they bring the BBQ! But did you know, they are totally on board with interactive food stations! Let’s talk about their Mashed Potato Bar, with all the toppings! And then their Mac and Cheese Station. You got it! More toppings! And hold on, there’s more! A Grits Station! With, of course, drum roll please, all the toppings!
  3. Christie Cookie Co. – How about a Milk and Cookie Station? What a perfect way to say thank you and good night to your guests! And let me tell you, Christie Cookie Co. delivers!
  4. Jeni’s Ice Cream – You scream, I scream, heck get your entire wedding party to scream!  Jeni’s will work with you from their menu items to their party packages with their Sweet Treats Truck!
  5. Frothy Monkey –  Ben Bradlee said, ” You never monkey with the truth.”  Well, it’s the truth that Frothy Monkey is noted for their AMAZING coffee! But truth be told, this is one monkey who knows how to do Interactive Food Stations! Check out their catering menu and call for culinary ideas!
