Fly Our New Australian Shepherd Fur-Kid

Meet Fly

Our new fur-kid

Last week we welcomed a new family member into our home! Fly is our 8 week old Australian Shepherd puppy!! Fun fact about Fly is his father is Rex’s brother!! Fly is so sweet, very smart, and oh so sassy! He already knows “sit”, “touch”, and his name! Rex is thrilled to have a brother and we are so excited to have someone entertain Rex LOL!

Some of you may be wondering where Fly got his name from. Actually, both Rex and Fly’s names come from the movie Babe! In the movie, Rex is the older, wiser herding dog on the Hoggett Farm. He is brave, protects his people, and has endless courage. As you learn in the movie, he almost sacrificed his life to protect his sheep and because of that becomes deaf (I won’t spoil too much of the plot!). At first, he is bitter because he can’t hear the farmers commands as well, but later in the movie, he grows to put his pride aside and help others. His character remains a loyal farm dog who will do anything for his people. Fly, has a more gentle personality in the movie. She is loving and supportive to Rex and Farmer Hoggett. She encourages Rex to be a better dog while still doing her job as a herding dog. Both dogs are just so loyal and sweet. When I decided to get a herding dog of my own, Rex and Fly just fit!

Anyways, bringing this little guy home was quite the adventure. I drove back home seven hours to Upstate New York to pick him up! Musa, unfortunately, couldn’t come with me because he had Jury duty! When I arrived at the breeder’s, I didn’t know which puppy I was going to take home. However, Fly knew that I was his person. When I walked through the door, he ran over and sat at my feet. During our time there he would go play with his siblings but then come over, sit by my side, and tug on my jacket. I knew he was our pup! I was so excited to get this puppy that I turned around the next day to bring him home to meet Musa and Rex. Fly did great on the drive home (he mainly slept the entire time) and we were both excited to be out of the car!!!

Rex loves Fly. They play ALL DAY LONG. I think Rex gets a little upset when the puppy falls asleep during the day. I can’t wait to see how Fly grows up!! I’m sure I’ll be flooding you all with lots of adorable puppy pictures! You can follow along with their daily adventures HERE.
