Tips to understand and boost your SEO presence

Photographers, this series is for you! Over the next couple of weeks, we will be discussing beginner tips that I use to boost your place in the “inter-web” world. Some of you may be like “SEO whattttt?” and that is exactly the first place we will begin.

SEO, or search engine optimization is the process of organic online visibility of a website or web page. In other words, how you rank, drive traffic, and are found online in search engines. It’s really as simple as that. SEO is so important because as photographers most of our marketing and business is online. From our websites to our blogs, it’s important that we are not only creating intriguing content but also that we are formatting it correctly so search engines understand our content. When search engines understand our content, our clients can search and find us!

One thing to remember is once we post content, the search engines are the ones sorting what we push out. There’s not another human sorting your content but rather a machine. There are set systems the search engines use to filter content. By understanding how these systems work, you’ll know how to structure your content to make the sorting and filtering easier for the search engines.

There are many aspects to SEO and it can get complicated very quickly. This series is meant to be the tip of the iceberg for SEO’s and how I use them in my business. Over the next few weeks, we will discuss how SEO is used in our websites, blogs, social media, and the next steps to even go further beyond this introductory series. There is SO much to learn! Stay tuned for next week’s post on SEO 101: Websites on the blog!
