How I Met Musa

The Story Of Us

Growing up my mom always used to say that somewhere out in the world, full of billions of people, your future husband is running around playing in the dirt and picking his nose. And boy she had one thing right, we truly were worlds apart, 5,754 miles to be exact! I grew up in a small town in Upstate, New York. But Musa, however, is from Azerbaijan, which is a small country just below Russia on the Caspian Sea.

God is truly incredible. To bring two individuals together that were literally worlds apart is absolutely amazing. It’s like He has a plan or something. Right?!

Anyways, after college, I moved out to Columbus, Ohio for the Columbus Zoo! I met Jack Hannah in the airport when he was on his way to Good Morning America with a baby kangaroo! I did a small research project in The Congo with the Gorillas and Bonobos! I’ll have to write a blog post on that! But yes, I did work with Colo which was SO cool! At the time, I was also managing a small veterinary practice in Dublin. A few doors down from our practice was Yogis Bar and Grill. After work, we used to close late, and we were always starving. So we would go down and grab some food. I promise this fun fact is actually apart of our story!

My boss one night went down for dinner and she met Musa who rarely goes to Yogis. He decided to go down for a beer and watch the football game. This bar is truly out of his way from where he was living at the time. Anyways my boss chatted with him and took his number, she had someone she wanted him to meet, ME!

Two days later, my boss convinced me to go down to Yogis. We closed late that night and I was SO tired. But, I ended up going down. Musa was celebrating his birthday with his family when he received a text message from my boss. She texted him saying that if he wanted to meet the most amazing, beautiful, smartest girl he’d ever meet he should come down to Yogis now. He immediately left his birthday party and jumped in the car! I had no idea he was on his way over.

He walked into the room and it truly felt like everyone around us disappeared. We chatted for hours and I bought him a birthday bourbon (our favorite spirit of choice!).  The next thing that happened is I burned his eyes… Yes, and he still married me! Musa was saying that his eyes were dry and he wished he had some eyedrops. My boss said to take him down to the clinic and use the eyedrops there!

So, we walked five doors down and went to the clinic. I found the eyedrops and took an alcohol swab to clean off the tip. I began to say wait, let’s have it dry. But… he didn’t listen and immediately used the freshly sterilized drops. His eyes began to burn from the alcohol and I felt SO bad!! Even though his eyes were burning he still asked for my number!

We met purely because of God’s plans for us. When I reflect and think about all the details and the exact moments in time that led us to that little bar to meet, I’m just in awe. Stay tuned for our first date!
