Feeling Whole And 30 Days Strong

My Whole 30 Experience

After marrying Musa, the honeymoon phase also included lots of food and snacks! Late-night ice cream, pizza date nights, and munchy snacks started to consume my life. The fact is, Musa eats a lot more than me! I felt like when he ate, I had to too. My diet began to spiral and I just was not feeling good about myself. I gained 15 pounds over the course of 2 years. My clothes got a little tighter and I just felt tired and icky!

I tried a few fad diets but nothing seemed to be working for me. I just wanted to feel healthy and energetic again. My amazing hairstylist Courtney, at the Spa at River Ridge, mentioned to me that she loved Whole 30 and adopted it as a lifestyle change. I was now at my “rock bottom” and was willing to try anything! So that very day, I started Whole 30.

At first, Whole 30 seems intimidating. There are a lot of rules but it basically comes down to eating as holistically and as naturally as possible (i.e. cutting out processed foods). I am a HUGE sweets person, so I knew to eliminate processed sugars was going to be tough.

The first three days were hard. I really fought to stay on track, drink lots of water, and substitute protein and veggies instead of grainy carbs and sugary treats. For me, I had to learn to be mindful of what I chose to eat. And also to think about if it was true hunger or just boredom. But after three days, it got easier, I began to crave vegetables, something that was never my “go-to” food of choice. I also ate a lot more of the healthy foods than I used to with processed foods! I made sure to take my multi-vitamin every day as well as my daily Organifi green juice.

After 30 days, I felt stronger and better. I didn’t feel heavy or weighed down like I did when I ate processed foods. I am now a few months into this lifestyle change and I have lost 10 pounds just by eating healthy and changing my mindset on food. After all, you only get one body, so I wanted to treat it right!

Yes, it is hard especially on Friday nights when your friends want to have a glass of wine or when you have to be picky about ordering at restaurants but for me, it is SO worth it.

The weight is falling off, I have energy, my skin is the best it’s ever been, I love it! My Whole 30 lifestyle still follows the principles of Whole 30 (no processed foods, alcohol, artificial sugars, dairy or grains) but I still will incorporate dairy and grains into my diet every once and awhile. I don’t want to lose the ability to process these foods plus they do have nutritional benefits in small portions. But overall, I am loving my whole lifestyle experience!
