2018 Behind the Scenes

Wow, where do I even begin?! This year has been filled with so much love, growth, and most of all revealing God’s purpose. This has been my busiest wedding season yet with 37 weddings. This season has taught me a lot of lessons from learning to not book triple header weddings in a weekend (what was I thinking?!) to affirming that this is where God wants me to be at this very moment in my life. The beginning of my 2018 season started in February. It was SO much fun capturing a wedding in the middle of the worst snowstorm of the year. It took me over an hour to get to the venue (when it was only 7 miles down the road)! But it was SO beautiful and something I will never forget.
This year was so weird weather-wise in Columbus, Ohio. The spring was hot the summer was cold and the fall was hot again! And by hot, I mean 90 degrees with humidity. Through the rain, humidity, and sunshine, all of the weddings ended up going seamlessly.
This job has brought the most amazing people into my life. It has taught me that whether it is for a reason, a season, or lifetime, we are all connected. Through lives trials and celebrations, the things that matter most is to love one another. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some very talented photographers and vendors this year. I am so grateful and appreciative for everyone who has touched my life and business this season.
A huge shout out to my second shooter Amanda and assistant Lexi. I couldn’t have survived this wedding season without all of their help!! Life and small businesses truly take a village to succeed. And these two ladies are seriously the best. Their kindness, compassion, hard work, and dedication for this industry truly set them apart. And believe me, these two are truly talented photographers! I can’t wait to see how they flourish and grow their own businesses back in the heartland of Ohio.
Being a business owner teaches you a lot of things. Here are some things I’ve learned this season:
- Don’t stress about the small stuff. Things will always fall into place.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. God has His plan and purpose for YOU even if you have to go through a season of waiting.
- If you don’t have a luggage roller get one now your back and shoulders will thank you.
- Invest in good comfortable shoes.
- Stay on top of your editing, don’t procrastinate.
- Set boundaries for yourself. You can’t do it all at once and that’s OKAY.
- Double-check your calendar when booking.
- Don’t just serve others but love others unconditionally.
On top of a busy wedding season, Musa and I were moving our family from Columbus, Ohio to Nashville, Tennessee! It was so exciting, stressful at times, but most of all God’s plan for our family. We moved down to Nashville to be closer to my family. Some great blessings this year were buying our very first home! It was so great but also challenging because I now have to start my business over again in a new location.
For those of you who have switched states, you know how difficult it can be from the legalities to the clientele. BUT I know this is where God wants us and I know that when I trust in him things fall into place. I’m SO excited for what’s in store for us next!
My season started in Columbus and is ending in Nashville. In between all of the gorgeous weddings, I also have been doing engagement, family, maternity, newborn, and business branding photography! Needless to say, I am very excited for the down season, to rest and prepare for an amazing 2019.
I can’t express how thankful I am for you, for believing in me and this adventure. I LOVE my job and feel so blessed to work with amazing couples, travel, and celebrate marriage. Yes, being a small business owner means lots of hard work, sleepless nights, and no free weekends but it is SO worth it when you are able to love on others. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for believing in me and supporting my journey. I wouldn’t be here without you and I’ll never, ever forget that. Here’s to an amazing 2018 season and I am SO excited to see what God has in store for 2019.
